For the past thirty five years , he has been married to Angélique Kidjo, a 61-year-old Beninese musician who, noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos, recently won her 5th Grammy Award for Best Global Album for her critically acclaimed album, Mother Nature.

Regarded as one of the most influential and greatest composer of all time, Jean’s compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and his narrative music, which is often inspired by his personal life, has received widespread media coverage and critical praise. Many of his and Angélique Kidjo’s albums are rooted in capturing foreign sounds and bringing them back to interlace with Angélique’s West African sound. Jean first gained international recognition after releasing with his wife the critically acclaimed collaborative album, Djin Djin, which won a Grammy for Best World Music Album. However, seven years ago, the album, Sings, won him the Grammy Award for Best producer.
