Akalaka History Doesn’t Even Have A Link With The Binin People

For those of you who do not know; Ikwerre people comprising the Isiokpo, Aluu, Obio, REBISI, Igrita, Omagwa and Akpo have been existing here for centuries before the arrival of Odegu (Ihuruoha), Ekpeye and OGBA (Akalaka groups)

Again, Akalaka and his offsprings were never Binin Descendants, they never lived in Binin. Akalaka was not also a Binin warrior as falsely described by some revisionists.

Akalaka was a great hunter of large animals who left Ika in the land of Igbo-akiri (Igbanke) to find solace amongst Igbos of same intelligible language, culture and traditions due to hostility meted on them by the then barbaric Binin kings who were on rampage sorting after slaves for sacrifices and sell most of the male children captured into slavery. This made Akalaka to flee from the land to protect his son (Ekpeye) from being killed or taken into slavery.

Note that while “Ogba” (the second son) was delivered by Akalaka’s second wife, Ihuruoha (the third son) was put to birth by Akalaka’s first wife in their new location.

Oral history have it that Akalaka’s first wife couldn’t conceive early, so when she eventually gave birth to Ikpahia (Ekpeye) after years of childlessness, the only way to protect his first son from the dreadful Binin onslaught was to flee from the land to his hinterland brothers in present day Rivers State.

This is Why Until date, most Ihuruoha communities in Odegu and Emohua have names like Ogbakiri, Mgbu-akiri in Rumuewhor and many other similar names scattered all over Igbo land.

It is sacrilegious and an abomination to associate the offsprings of Akalaka who at some point hated and cursed the Binin people for inflicting pains on his people…..Seê _ Morê
