On July 5, 2022, armed bandits opened fire on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to then President Muhammadu Buhari, on Media and Publicity, confirmed in a statement that a convoy carrying the President’s advance team was attacked near Dutsinma in Katsina. The team, which included security guards, protocol officers, and media staff, was en route to Daura for Sallah.
Shehu also said that the attackers ambushed the convoy and opened fire, but the military, police, and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives successfully repelled them. Two individuals in the convoy sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The rest of the team safely reached Daura.
This attack is part of a series of criminal activities by outlaws terrorizing communities in the North West and parts of the North Central region. The week before, bandits attacked a mining site in Ajata-Aboki, Gurmana Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State. That incident resulted in the deaths of thirteen policemen and civilians, and the abduction of several people, including four Chinese nationals.
In response to a distress call during the attack, the Nigerian Army reported that a number of their personnel “paid the supreme price in the fierce firefight that ensued,” with about 30 soldiers’ bodies recovered from the bush….Seê _ Morê
