Terrorists launched a deadly attack on Wednesday at Maro Junction, a weekly market located in Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the death of 12 individuals.

According to a report by Punch, the assailants reportedly arrived at the market around 3 pm and indiscriminately opened fire on unsuspecting traders and customers.

Confirming the incident, Cafra Caino, a former chairman of the local government, described the attackers’ assault as a brutal and calculated act of violence. He stated that this was the second time the market had been targeted, recounting the chaos and panic that ensued as residents scrambled for safety in neighboring villages.

“So far, 12 bodies have been recovered from the scene,” Caino disclosed, adding that an additional 20 individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The absence of effective security presence exacerbated the situation, as initial responders reportedly withdrew shortly after arriving at the scene. Caino urged the government to deploy more security personnel to the area to prevent further attacks and restore calm among the traumatized community members.

Local residents expressed outrage and anguish over the brazen attack, highlighting ongoing concerns about the security situation in Kaduna State. Many lamented the recurring nature of such assaults on markets and public spaces, calling for immediate and decisive action from the authorities to safeguard civilian lives and restore peace…….Séé Mórè
