Since Monday, Daddy Freeze has been in the news, together with Pastor David Ibiyeomie and Bishop David Oyedepo. In the controversial video by pastor David Ibiyeomie, he alleged that Daddy Freeze has Somalian roots and even said he is a “half cast”.
In response to this, the broadcaster released pictures of his family. What many do not know is who his mother actually is and where she is from. Her mother is Smaranda Olarinde, a Professor of Law
Mrs Smaranda Olarinde is from Romania. She is married to Alhaji Dr. Olarinde, a Professor of Medicine. Mrs Olarinde is a professor of law and the President of the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers. She is a former legal researcher for UNICEF, covering Oyo and Niger state.
She is the incumbent Vice Chancellor of Afe Babalola University
Mrs Olarinde has worked over three decades in teaching law in Romania and Nigeria. In 1989, Mrs Olarinde was a legal researcher for IDRC, as she worked to protect the rights of women, adolescents and children
In 1990, she worked as a researcher for the World Bank on Law development and the rights and status of women.
She is a fellow of the Centre of Peace and Conflict Studies. She has over 30 years experience in common law and civil law in both Nigeria and Romania. She also worked as part of the team of the Netherlands, Nigeria and Israel’s joint research on the Girl Child’s Sexuality in 2002. She was once the coordinator of the International Federation of Women Lawyers’ Committee for the drafting of the Child Rights Law in Oyo State State
She served three tenures as Acting Head, Department of Public and International Law, University of Ibadan. She has also been the Acting Provost, College of Law, Afe Babalola University, Sub Dean Undergraduate and Pioneering Postgraduate, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan
She ventured into many researches, even outside the field of law. For example, she carried out research in HIV/AIDS, Women’s and Children’s Rights and Reproductive Rights
She can speak Yoruba, English, Romanian, Hungarian, and French
Together, Professor Olarinde and his wife, Smaranda, have four children: Ifedayo Olarinde (Daddy Freeze), Yetunde, Oluremi and Omolola
Daddy Freeze’s father is a professor too, a professor of medicine. He is Dr A.G.A Olarinde. He had his education in Romania. He went to Romania on a scholarship to study medicine and it was there that he met his wife, Smaranda. They had their first child, Ifedayo, in 1976.
