There have been several reactions from social media users after civil rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, shared her thoughts on Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar’s, plea for northern leaders to address the issue of Almajiri children begging on the streets.
According to the Daily Post, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged northern leaders to promote education and end the practice of begging among Almajiri students. He recognized that Qur’anic Schools provide Islamic instruction and ideals to Almajiri students, but his primary concern was their begging on the streets. He did, however, advise that the construction of Integrated Schools is critical to society’s needs since it tackles out-of-school children and eliminates begging in the name of education.
Reacting to the news, Aisha Yesufu said that they, referring to the northern leaders, need the almajiris on the streets to be future thumbprints on ballot papers.
Aisha Yesufu wrote on her official X handle:
“They need them on the streets to be future thumbprints on ballot papers and nothing else”
