Apart from Mike Ejeagha, there’s another Igbo man who uses Akụkọ in his songs like Mike Ejeagha. It seems he is from Rivers State or Imo state, though I am not sure of his state. His stage name is “Show Promoter.”
How many of you have listened to his music, especially the one about a tragic incident involving a woman and her two-year-old son, Chukwukerenwa? The song narrates that while they were traveling from Enugu to Elele, the woman asked the bus driver, whose bus was registered with the number 144 and named “Echi di ime,” to stop so she could ease herself in the bush. As she went into the bush, she started giving birth. When the conductor saw her, he remarked that she was giving birth and had asked them to wait. The conductor then removed her luggage from the bus and left her there.
After the woman finished delivering, she couldn’t find anyone to cut the umbilical cord. She sent her two-year-old son to find someone with a knife and tell them that his mother was giving birth in the bush. When the boy reached the main road, he met a man and told him, “Nne m wuru nwa n’Ọha.” The man initially didn’t understand but eventually decided to follow the boy to the bush.
Upon reaching the scene, the man saw the woman with her newborn baby. He threatened to kill her, her son, and the newborn. The woman pleaded with him, even offering to become his wife instead of being killed. She asked whether he was killing her because her husband had sent her home to deliver their second child, due to lack of tangible work in the city, or because the driver had abandoned her and her son, or simply because she was giving birth. Before she could finish her plea, the man killed her, her son Chukwukerenwa, and the newborn baby.
