In a recent report by Vanguard, former Senate leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe addressed Nigeria’s troubled history and cautioned that the nation may continue to face challenges unless appropriate measures are taken. He criticized the display of ostentatious wealth amid widespread poverty, stating that such practices are counterproductive and detrimental to the country’s progress.

Abaribe called upon those in positions of power to fulfill their responsibilities and tackle the issues facing the nation head-on. He pointed out the glaring contradiction between the government’s lavish spending on luxury items and their simultaneous requests for financial support from the populace. Drawing an analogy, Abaribe likened this behavior to an individual driving a Rolls Royce and seeking a loan, emphasizing the hypocrisy and unacceptability of such actions.

In his own words, Abaribe stated, “We have had a turbulent history, but I think we are going to have a lot more unless we do the right things. It is clear now that ostentatious living in the midst of poverty will not take us anywhere. Let those in authority gird their loins and do the work for which they have been elected, which is to solve the problems of Nigeria.”

He further added, “You can’t be buying new planes, building new houses, when the masses are suffering. You cannot drive a Rolls Royce to my house and ask me to lend you money because I will not give you. This is what Nigeria is doing…..Seê _ Morê
