No parent deserves the pain of losing a baby suddenly without any sign of sickness but this incidence is more common than we think. According to CDC.gov, about 3400 babies die suddenly every year in US. Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is when a baby less than a year old, who looks healthy suddenly dies, usually during sleep without being sick.

The actual cause is still unknown but scientist have discovered that SIDS might be associated with the shortcoming of the part of the brain that controls breathing and arousal from sleep. In this article, I’ll like to enlighten you on the physical causes of SIDS according to Mayo Clinic

1. Brain problems or defects in new born babies may lead to death. Some babies have issues with the part of the brain which controls breathing. Such a baby can find it difficult to breath and die of shortness of breathe. Some other babies can’t wake up so might die in thier sleep

2. Some babies have low birth weight. This problem is common in babies who are born prematurely (before pregnancy is due) or are part of multiples births (twins, triplets, quadruplets etc). These babies usually have brains that haven’t matured fully hence they might find it difficult to breath or wake up from sleep.

3. Babies with respiratory infections may not survive. Many infants who died suddenly and unexpectedly had a cold which might contribute to breathing problems. This is why new parents should watch for symptoms of respiratory diseases in their baby..………….S££ MOR£
