Southern Nigeria’s first Governor, Lord Lugard, came to the world from the family of a preacher, who was performing his service at Madras, in India, around 1858.

Lord Lugard, who travels into little regions as a British soldier, was first Nigeria’s Southern governor, the very first high commissioner in Nigeria, and Nigeria’s last Northern Governor from 1912 to 1914.

Lord Lugard was married to a British columnist, and journalist, Flora Shaw. She was the one who suggested the word Nigeria.

Lord Lugard reportedly wrote a letter to his colleague, Walter H. Lang, around 1918. Lord Lugard told his friend in the letter, what he had detected concerning the 3 main languages of the Nigerian tribes.

He described the traits he detected, during the time he was in Nigeria.

He explained that the Hausa tribes spend money extravagantly, and they love taking risks. He likewise wrote in his letter that the Hausa tribes are principally a threat to any society they live in.

He described the Igbos as the unruly donkeys, who does not have any respect when they want to usurp powers, but are very hardworking, and are not trustworthy.

He said the lowest of all tribes he encountered in Nigeria were the Yoruba tribes. He said they are extremely disloyal.
