It is the joy of every tradesman to see his/her apprentice(s) become highly proficient and professional even way more than he/she was.
Archbishop Benson according to many received a mandate to disciples and he has done just that. “Raise up an army for me, to go with the gospel to all Nations. Gather together those whom I have called and I will send them with the fire of my spirit. Give my word and your example to many who will go to teach, preach and heal”
The Archbishop Benson Idahosa has been a household name for decades amongst the Christian faithful. He was a man who wrote Nigeria’s name on the global map in so many ways. 1) His ministry- Church of God mission intl, spanned over 100 countries, with the church having its headquarters in Benin, Nigeria.

2) Through his influence, many prominent Gospel preachers visited Nigeria for the first time.
3) Nigeria joined the league of nations which owned private tertiary schools, through the inception of the Benson Idahosa University. Just to mention but a few.

Archbishop Benson was a very phenomenal man of God, whose ministry touched so many, with several many testifying as eyewitnesses of the great miracles, of this man of great faith. But beyond his impact on the lives of so many christains, he had a considerable impact and great significance in the lives of the clergymen he nurtured.
I have compiled a list of men of God today who were once under his tutelage and mentorship.
Archbishop Benson and Bishop David Oyedepo
Bishop David Oyedepo benefited greatly from the tutelage of Archbishop Benson. Bishop David in one of his sermons recounted his personal experience, of an impartation of the Archbishop.
According to him, the Archbishop asked him to come from Kaduna to Lagos when it was almost evening and he did just that, by boarding the last flight to Lagos and Archbishop said to him “SON, YOU CAME! YOU CAME! YOU CAME! KNEEL DOWN. Son, from now henceforth, I release on you, ON TIME ANOINTING”.
Today, many celebrate the global impact of Bishop David, and today he is a mentor to many like Dr. Paul Enenche, Bishop David Ibiyeomie, Pastor Sam Adeyemi and many more.

Pastor Enoch was also one of the beneficiaries of a great relationship with the Archbishop Benson. Today Papa Adeboye has become a father and a mentor to the body of Christ in Nigeria. With spiritual sons like Bishop David and Apostle Johnson Suleman and many more.
Papa Ayo Oritsejafor
The former National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Joseph Ayodele Oritsejafor, in an interview with pleasure magazine in 2016, stated that his journey in ministry began 45 years ago under the Archbishop’s tutelage. In his own words “after I have left my life was still connected to that great man” .

The President of Believers Loveworld inc. Rev. Chris Oyakhilome spoke of Archbishop Benson Idahosa’s impact and mentorship in his early days as a minister, whilst commemorating the inauguration of the faculty of Engineering complex, Benson Idahosa University, Benin city.

In 2015, he spoke exclusively on Archbishop’s tutelage in a very high regard whilst receiving an honorary degree from the institute. In his words, “Archbishop Benson Idahosa taught us to be kind to the poor and to support the government. He taught us to dress well, he taught us to be clean, he taught us to be educated, he taught us to speak well.My dad preached the gospel too. My mother was amazing. They brought me up very well, but when you talk about the ministry, there was nowhere to look but the Archbishop. As a minister of the gospel, the Archbishop taught us the word, he taught us worship and praises. He taught us to dress well, he taught us to be clean, he taught us to be educated, he taught us to speak well. We didn’t know that anywhere else. I grew up in a church, but the first day I entered Church of God Mission, on a Sunday morning, I thought I have raptured, I thought I was in heaven. It was completely different from where I was coming from.”
Today Reverend Chris Oyakhilome is a mega success in pastoring and he is a mentor and father to founders of churches which includes Prophet Eubert Angel, Pastor Jella Jr. Wojacek and many more.
It pays to have a great teacher and mentor in any endeavour, it is easier to be successful that way.
Indeed Archbishop Benson Idahosa’s legacy has been preserved by these great mentees. I have written this piece in honour of his 82nd post humus birthday.….Sée Moré
