Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian businessman, investor, and philanthropist, often referred to as the richest man in Africa. He was born on April 10, 1957, in Kano, Nigeria. He is the founder and CEO of Dangote Group, a conglomerate that operates in various industries, including cement, sugar, salt, flour, and oil and gas.

Dangote’s business empire began in the late 1970s when he started trading in commodities like sugar, rice, and cement. He soon realized the potential of the cement industry in Nigeria and established a cement company in 1992. Today, Dangote Cement is the largest cement manufacturer in Africa and operates in several countries.

Apart from cement, Dangote Group has a significant presence in the sugar industry. It is the largest sugar refiner in Africa, with a production capacity of 1.44 million tonnes per year. The group also has a substantial investment in the flour industry, with a milling capacity of over 5 million tonnes per annum.

In recent years, Dangote has also ventured into the oil and gas sector. The group is currently constructing a refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, which will have a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Once completed, the refinery will be the largest in Africa and will help to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
