An Igbo bride is said to be standing on one leg in her husband’s family if she is yet to bear him a son.

Her place is only secured when she has a son.

It is her son(s) whom inherits her husband’s properties and makes sure her place is safe.

In many cases where a woman loses her husband without bearing him a male child, His properties are taken by his brothers and the widow left with nothing.

But, if she has a son or sons, her husband’s properties would remain under her care and that of her son or sons.
