3 Former Nigerian Public Office Holders Who Own Luxury Properties In Dubai

Some prominent Nigerians who have held political office or have been in positions of power own some luxury properties in Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Today we shall be talking about three of those former officeholders.

1. Mustafa Balogun (Former Inspector General of Police)

Balogun was the IGP of the Nigeria Police from 2002 to 2004, when he resigned due to several allegations of corruption.

Balogun was charged with eight counts of diversion and embezzlement of public funds by the Nuhu Ribadu-led Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

After pleading guilty to the charges brought against him, Judge Binta Nyako sentenced him to six months in prison in 2005, after he had spent weeks in EFCC custody.

Although the EFCC stated that the government would seize $150 million in cash and property acquired by Balogun. According to records by the ICIR, the former IG still owns ten luxury apartments in Dubai.

Some of the buildings include the Dec Towers T1 and T3, Lake City Tower, Waterfront, Goldcrest View and Marina Park.

2. Attahuru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto

After serving as the governor of Sokoto State from 1999 to 2007, Bafarawa was arraigned alongside four others by the EFCC on a 33-count charge of conspiracy, criminal misappropriation, theft, and receiving stolen funds.

In July 2018, the Sokoto High Court discharged and acquitted Bafarawa of the allegations.

The EFCC protested his acquittal and promised to appeal the decision.

The former governor of Sokoto owns six properties in Dubai, including M5 Community B-V-165, Residences North, and Residences South.

3.Former PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh.

Olisa Metuh and his wife own four properties in Dubai, including hotel apartments. The Metuh properties in Dubai are located in the Fakhrudeen Hotel Apartments.
