Genotype SS refers to individuals who are homozygous for the sickle cell trait, meaning that they have inherited the sickle cell gene from both parents. The following are five common symptoms of sickle cell disease in individuals with this genotype:

1. Anemia.

Individuals with genotype SS have a reduced number of healthy red blood cells, which can lead to fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

2. Pain crises.

One of the most characteristic symptoms of sickle cell disease is recurrent episodes of severe pain, often in the bones, chest, and abdomen. These pain crises can last for several days and may require hospitalization.

3. Infections.

Individuals with genotype SS are at increased risk of infections, particularly of the lungs and bones. This is due to the abnormal shape of sickle cells, which can clog small blood vessels and impede the flow of oxygen and white blood cells to various parts of the body.

4. Jaundice

Due to the increased destruction of red blood cells, individuals with genotype SS may experience jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)

5. Delayed growth and development

Children with genotype SS may experience delayed growth and development due to chronic anemia and other complications of the disease……………S££ MOR£
