In an interview with Arise TV, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, discussed his respectful approach towards political opponents, despite disagreements. Baba-Ahmed emphasized the importance of maintaining decency and respect in political discourse.

“In the presence of all the heat and political dynamics, decent Nigerians should continue to offer respect to others,” Baba-Ahmed said. He elaborated that even though he does not agree with Bola Tinubu, he still addresses him respectfully as “uncle,” and they exchange pleasantries. “Why start insulting people for goodness’ sake in the name of politics? People like me give objective assessments, and they say we are insulting their leader, but we don’t. It’s not in our history, it’s not our upbringing. I have never insulted anybody.”

Baba-Ahmed also commented on the behavior of Wole Soyinka, criticizing the Nobel Laureate for his harsh remarks. “Why should a Nobel laureate do that because he knows how to speak 1960s and 1970s English? I think all he’s trying to do is an attempted distraction which Peter Obi and myself have excused ourselves from, and we will not react to the Nobel Laureate. He should go and see how other Nobel laureates are respecting themselves and holding up the honor all over the world.”

Through his statements, Baba-Ahmed underscored the need for civility and respect in political interactions, regardless of differing viewpoints.…………..S££ MOR£
