According to a report by Sahara Reporters, renowned Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has expressed his strong disapproval of the Nigerian government’s decision to incarcerate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a recent interview with Noble Nigeria, Soyinka emphasized that Kanu should not be held captive since he was never implicated in any physical bombings or atrocities.

Kanu’s forcible return to Nigeria from Nairobi in June 2021, executed with Kenyan governmental assistance during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, remains a subject of great controversy.

Subsequently, the separatist leader has been confined by the Department of State Services, facing charges linked to alleged terrorist broadcasts.

Soyinka, direct in his condemnation, labeled the Nigerian government’s action as a glaring example of “kidnapping.”

He said, “It is a mistake keeping Nnamdi Kanu in prison, I believe. In fact, they kidnapped him.”

Soyinka continued, “His language was inciteful, yes, no question about that. But you don’t arrest, you don’t kidnap people. Buhari had an obsession with kidnapping people.

“That seemed to be his trademark. It is like he couldn’t fulfil himself unless he’s put somebody in a crate and brought them back.”

The Nobel Laureate concluded by adding, “I think that politically speaking, if they have any real charges against him, well, since he is in their hands, they should try him. All these technical postponements, delays, and avoiding the basic issues, for me, is counter-productive……DÍSCOV£R MOR£
