Hon. Beni Lar once shared the story of her father’s saving grace after he delivered a letter demanding the resignation of Gen. Sani Abacha as Nigeria’s Military Head of State at the time. During a recent interview with TVC News, the Nigerian lawmaker discussed her personal life.
Sharing the story, Beni said, “My father, the late Solomon Lar, was a man of the people.” He was a lover of the people and a strong advocate of democracy who fought many political battles to get Nigeria where it is today. My father single-handedly delivered the letter demanding Abacha’s resignation to him. However, Abacha sent for him, and my father bade us goodbye.
She continued, “Fortunately for my mother and us their kids, Abacha’s death was announced as my father drove to see him.” That was his saving grace. Otherwise, he could have gone like Abiola and the rest.
