Residents of Kabiro-ini village in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County were left in disbelief after a 29-year-old woman threw herself into a river together with her 5-year-old child.
Moreen Wangui Munene is reported to have jumped into the flooded River Nyamindi while still holding her baby girl.
The woman was spotted jumping into the river by a coffee factory security who raised alarm and alerted area residents.
The woman’s family led by her grandfather Ngombo Kuruma stated that she was washing clothes before she disappeared with her daughter under unclear circumstances. Kuruma said that Wangui left home after realising that other family thad gone inside the house.
Her uncle Stephen Maembe said they were later informed that their kin was seen jumping into the river together with her daughter.
Gichugu sub-county Police Commander Johnson Wachira confirmed the incident saying so far the bodies have not been recovered. Wachira noted that a search for the bodies is still underway.
According to her grandmother Fridah Njoki, Wangui had come to visit them before committing the henious act. The motive for her action is yet to known………S££ MOR£
